Happy Everything! Guide: Bases, Attachments, Sizing & Care
Happy Everything!™ by Coton Colors is built on one simple idea: buy the Base once, then change the Attachment for every season, holiday and milestone. Below is everything you need to know before you buy — especially the sizing question, which trips up almost everyone the first time.
How the Happy Everything! system works
Every Happy Everything! Base has a hook-and-loop (Velcro-style) strip built into it. Every Attachment has the matching strip on its back. Press the attachment on, and it stays put. Peel it off and swap it whenever you like — no adhesive, no tools, no residue. One base gives you dozens of looks.
Big vs. Mini: the single most important thing to get right
Attachments and Bases come in two sizes, and they are matched pairs:
- Big Attachments go on Big Bases. A Big Attachment is roughly 6–8 inches across. It will not fit a Mini Base — it overhangs the strip and won't sit properly.
- Mini Attachments go on Mini Bases. A Mini Attachment is roughly 3–5 inches across. It will physically stick to a Big Base, but it looks undersized on one — Big is the right scale there.
How to tell which you need: look at the base you already own. If it's a large platter, big bowl, big vase or big jar, you need Big Attachments. If it's a mini platter, nesting cube, tissue box, soap pump or small canister, you need Mini. Price is another quick tell — Big Attachments typically run about $28.95 and Mini about $23.95.

What counts as a Base?
More than just platters. Happy Everything! Bases include platters and serving boards, bowls and nesting cubes, vases, glass and wooden-lid jars, canisters, tissue box covers, soap pumps, paper towel holders, plate stands and even magnetic dry-erase wall calendars. If it has the hook-and-loop strip, it's a base.
Care: the one mistake that ruins a base
- Bases: hand wash only, and keep soap off the hook-and-loop strip. Soap is what makes the fastener stop gripping — not water, not age. A dishwasher cycle will do the same thing. Wash by hand, wipe the strip dry, and a base will hold attachments for years.
- Attachments: wipe clean. They're decorative ceramic — not dishwasher safe, not microwave safe, and not food-safe. Serve food on the base itself and let the attachment do the decorating.
- Wood, marble and metal bases: clean with a damp cloth only. Don't soak them.
- Dry-erase calendars: dry-erase marker on the surface only, wipe with a cloth, and keep sharp objects away from the finish.
Can I put food directly on a Happy Everything! platter?
Yes — on the platter itself. The ceramic serving surface is intended for food. The attachment is not; keep food off it.
Does a Base come with an Attachment?
No. Bases and Attachments are sold separately on purpose, so you pick the designs that suit you. That's also what makes them such easy gifts — if someone already owns a base, a single attachment is a genuinely welcome present.
The St. Jude partnership
Coton Colors has partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® for more than 16 years and has raised over $575,000. On the limited-edition St. Jude designs, $9 from every Big Attachment and $6 from every Mini Attachment goes directly to St. Jude. The 2026 design was inspired by artwork from Levi, a St. Jude patient.
About the brand
Happy Everything! was created in 2003 by artist Laura Johnson, who wanted a single platter that could be redressed for every holiday instead of stored away eleven months a year. The designs are still developed in-house in Tallahassee, Florida, and the collection is now carried in more than 500 stores. Each summer the brand debuts five new attachment designs and lets fans vote one into the permanent line — the "Attachelor" contest.
